Toughenable stainless steel as an alternative to more expensive carbide

Steel components are under heavy strain when used in mixer systems. When the components are used in the food or pharmaceutical industries, special requirements apply to corrosion resistance and purity. Carbide is often chosen as wear-resistant material, but it is expensive, difficult to work with, and not permitted everywhere.

By hard inchromizing and vacuum core-hardening toughenable stainless-steel, we increased the surface and core hardness of the shaft journals. The shafts are now resistant to the high surface pressure for the long term. The treatment also ensures good corrosion resistance. The service life improved by a factor of five, allowing the material to substitute the more expensive carbide.
